I’m taking a diet product called Omni Trim which is supposed to curb your appetite and speed up your metabolism.

I recently started taking a diet product called Omni Trim. Have you heard of it? Is it supposed to curb your appetite and speed up your metabolism? Thank you.

Since I don’t know which one of the many Omnitrim products you are using, I’ll tell you about a few of them. According to the Omnitrim product information Omni4 is a “special micellized formulation which enables fat-soluble nutrients to be converted into stable, water-soluble sub-microsized particles [which] are readily available for absorption by your body.” Actually, this “special formulation” is not necessary for your body because your body is able to absorb these nutrients without the added expense of Omnitrix. In fact, your body can absorb and store excess fat-soluble nutrients (vitamin A, D, E, and K) as does in your liver for times when you don’t eat enough foods containing these nutrients.

Several Omnitrim products also contain amino acids, such as phenylalanine which is also found in aspartame. Americans typically consume enough (even excess) protein in a typical day and since proteins are made up of amino acids it is unnecessary to ingest even more of them in a diet supplement.

While the therapeutic effects of herbal remedies are being studied by the National Institute of Health, some Omnitrim products may contain ingredients that may not be regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). FDA has established regulations for dietary supplements. Read more information about herbal supplements from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.

The danger with unregulated products is they do not necessarily contain pure or the active form of ingredients. They may contain toxic contaminants in particular if manufactured outside the U.S. and there may also be side effects like elevated high blood pressure, for instance, with the use of too much ginseng.

Health claims on food supplements are regulated like labels on packaged foods, so dietary supplement manufacturers can’t say just anything on their labels.

As with any drug, there is a risk you take by using this diet product, especially since the FDA may not regulate it. By choosing a variety of foods from the My Plate you will get all the vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients required by your body without having the added expense of a diet supplement.

If weight-loss is your goal, you need to know how much to eat compared to what you eat now. Have you tried my Healthy Body Calculator®? Your report will provide you with a Calorie Goal for your weight loss goal (your choice of 1 to 2-pounds loss per week) to follow for making a change in your weight.

FYI, your appetite center is in your brain and regulated there. Have you heard about leptin? It is being researched as a possible appetite suppressant because it makes your body think it is full.

Do you need to exercise more? The quickest way to increase your metabolism is to exercise which will increase your metabolism for up to 15 hours afterward.

A lifestyle change (healthy food choices and exercise) will bring about long-lasting benefits, whereas using a weight-loss supplement will not teach you how to make lifestyle changes. As soon as you stop taking Omnitrim, there is a good probability that you will gain the weight back because you will most likely return to the same eating and exercise habits you had before.
